How to add credit card transactions directly to Splitwise — everything you need to know
I’m an avid Splitwise user. My girlfriend and I recently bought a house together and find ourselves with all kinds of bills and expenses piling up. Since we don’t share a credit card or bank account, we rely on Splitwise to organize our joint spending. This means we end up adding a LOT of expenses directly into the app. We can’t be bothered to do it in the moment. Who wants to be on your phone while checking out at the grocery store or while you’re out to eat? After all, we know the transactions will be available on our credit card statement after a day or two.
The problem is that once you decide to add everything to Splitwise, you have to look through multiple credit card statements and copy and paste all of the details of the transaction from your statement to Splitwise. This is even more of a pain to do from your phone, switching in between apps, opening and closing windows, or worse — copying paper statements back into a digital format. This introduces the possibility that you slack off and entirely forget to add something important to Splitwise.
Not any more! I built Reconcile to enable you to split any of your credit card transactions with friends or groups on Splitwise. No more copy and pasting and you can easily do it from your phone or computer.
Not only that but Reconcile also enables you to specify transactions as recurring and have them split the same way every time. Got an electricity or gas bill that comes in once a month? Mark it as recurring and it’ll get added to your house’s Splitwise as soon as it shows up on your card (or even in your bank account). After all, if you forget to split your $60 internet bill once that’s a decent chunk of change out of your pocket.
